The funny thing about this post is that Americans don't think of themselves as American. They consider themselves Irish, French, German, whatever.

When Americans ask me this question, I respond that I'm American. It pisses them off to no end.

Southern American. My heritage is mostly Irish, with a little Welsh and English thrown in.

I'm from New England. We're not the most social bunch of people around here, we're really keep-to-ourselves types, and here is Massachusetts we drive like psychos and like to drink too much. But we're hard working people and generally try to be nice and helpful once we are spoken to.

Other than that, I dunno.. generalizations don't mean much. My "heritage" is Irish and Italian.

I am french (both my parents were born in Italy though).

Good: our history, we can cook, kiss and we have a cool accent.
Bad: our polical system, reputation to be rude.

Texan. We make good chili, BBQ and Tex-Mex but we talk slow.

This is common among Texans: They think of themselves as Texans, not Americans.
