The only problem I'm finding with Stud is that I have no idea what to play. The hands that I think are strong are trips, good 3 flushes, good 3 straights, straight-flush combos maybe a gap or two, pairs with good kickers or high pairs with decent kickers. Those all combined come in like 12% of the time. That's just really, really tight.

Your usually good starting with any 3 suited, or any 3 sequencial cards(some worse than others here). The key words here:

"LIVE DRAWS"

With smaller pairs it mainly depends on the strength of your kicker in relation to whats out. I haven't played for a while, but I know any pair with a live Ace is playable, and if an ace was folded (almost never happens)or 2 aces or more are out I'll play anything with a K kicker, stuff like that.

West's book has some decent advice, I just wouldnt dwell on it. Give it a good once-over then hit 7CSFAP.

BTW have you played much Triple Draw? That game is the nut-HIGH sir, and virtually nobody that plays it plays it well.

I decided I'm going to stick with West's then go on to 7CSFAP. Both books are only about 180 pages, so they're easy reading material. I'll have both books read by Sunday evening and be ready to sit in on the $100/$200 game by Monday. One of those is a lie.

The $100/$200 game is Tuesday, then?

That reminds me, I've been meaning to talk to you about staking me about $8,000 for this Stud game I was hoping to sit in on next week.

I ceased lending out such small amounts of money, the last 100 times or so I've done it, miniscule amount has slipped the minds of the people I lend it to.

Oh, well.

Where I am at: A reasonably strong NLHE tournament player, who has been having some trouble and frustration playing cash games, particularly limit HE

Where I'm going: I want to become an extremely strong tournament player, and be able to start winning consistently playing cash games.

What's next: Getting it on at the lowest limit cash tables until I feel comfortable with my play, and how I am dealing with the play of others around me.

Where I'm at: 10k hands of .5/1 at 1.46bb/100
Where I'm going: 1/2 as soon as I get back to the states.
What's next: I need to find out whats up with my aggression - its only 7.6 preflop and 1.76 postflop, which sounds a little low according to the micro limits guidelines. It says almost no one is successful with a post-flop aggression below 2.

Don't change your play to fit some 'ideal' set of numbers. Change your play because you understand what needs to be changed, and why.

If you postflop aggression is 'too low' you are probably calling is spots where a raise or fold is prudent. Do you protect your weak made hands with checkraises from EP? Do use free card plays with your draws from LP? Do you fold middle pair on the turn when a passive player check-raises the field?

Re-read SSHE and try to understand why some plays are made, rather than try and force them into your game to fit some ideal numerical model.

After approx 10k hands at 0.5/1 I was in exactly the same spot. I figured I had to get my agression factor up. I did the mistake of thinking too much about my agression factor while playing, thinking I had to boost it up. Turned out to be a devastating thing to do. After that I decided to not look at my PT stats for a while and just play and study.

After that and playing some 6-max I looked at my stats another 10k hands later. Agression factors turned out to be healthy.

My library just might have a couple more titles in it than yours.

Where I'm At: Winning LHE player over 100k hands at limits from .5/1 through 5/10. Mostly 2/4.
Where I'm Going: Winning All-Around poker player. Any game, any limit structure, any opponents.
What's Next: Short-handed and live casino no-limit HoldEm. Currently winning over 10k hands of NLHE including $25NL - $100NL, mostly $25 and $50.

After I get more NLHE coaching, move way up in limits and am able to consistantly beat 2+2 private games through skillful play, I'll start on stud games. Starting with stud high, then split games.

Leaving for Vegas this saturday.
