This depends on UTG. The idea is that he's less likely to raise a nice hefty bet on the turn without a set, whereas he'll raise the flop with AJ for sure, and possibly AQ. He'll also bet the flop with AQ, AJ, TT, QQ and so on, so we get more value that way. [/ QUOTE ] |
Re: AK in SB, $100NL
what about check call down?
why do we have to lead the turn? |

Re: AK in SB, $100NL
Does anybody else (other than me) re-raise preflop? Is that wrong?

Re: AK in SB, $100NL
I really like a check-raise on that flop, AQ, AJ, AT, KJ and a flush draw will call you down a lot, and you will be assured to have a big pot. Also, someone could get silly and push back all-in thinking you are making a move with a flush draw. You also gain equity from MP to call a bet from UTG with a draw and faced with a big raise from you, or better a reraise from UTG.

Re: AK in SB, $100NL
He said UTG is solid, so, I think this hand really comes down to knowing your opponent. You must have an idea of what kind of hands he'll raise with UTG if you can call him solid. If he's the kind of guy that will only raise UTG with aces or kings, you're in bad shape. I would probe on the flop, bet 1/3 or 1/2 the pot and see what he does. The decision would have probably been easier if you had raised pre-flop. I just don't know too many players who will raise UTG with anything less than big pocket pairs. If the table is aggressive, I'll check aces or kings UTG in order to reraise if since I know it'll get raised, however, if it's a passive table, I'm definitely raising UTG with aces or kings to narrow the field. So, if the player is me, you gotta make him for a set. If it's a loose player, and you just called the flop, then you should probably lead the flop then, cause you're probably in the lead.
What do you think guys? |
