i wasn't worried about any hand, i was worried that a flop lead would appear way too strong for someone who i viewed to be a bit laggy.

i felt there was a good chance villain was bluffing, and i wanted to call to allow him to take the lead again

You think a LAG villian is checking behind on the flop and then raising the turn with the nut flush draw? Weird.

I think your goal with these kind of hands is to get it in all you can vs second best hands, and check-calling isn't the way to do it
