I think you hit it on the head. Most people who can beat the 200NL game for 10+BB per 100 are probably good at other things that allow them to make a good living and provide health insurance, a pension, and lower tax liability (assuming you pay). It is also not clear to me how the whole internet poker thing is going to play up. The legality of the sites is in question and the games could always dry up. If the sites go away, start reporting payouts to the IRS, or the fish go away and you have invested years making a living playing poker, it can be hard to get back on a traditional career path.

Passion.

Re: True Win Rate thoughts: Why can\'t I be a NL200 pro?

im a youngster winning at over 10 pt bb at nl200, and here are my thoughts on poker/life and all that:

1. im playing the 200, although i could play higher right now, both in roll and skill, but 4 tabling the 200 just has an awesome risk reward ratio in terms of my needs.

2. poker might not be around in 10 years, and ive got to earn money for 30-40 years more of my life.

3. poker is great now, its nice have tons of money and i enjoy it, but there are much more fulfilling things in life. at the end of the day after youve been doing it a while is not a relatively fun way to make money.

4. if i wanted purely money i could earn way more getting a wall street job or some crap, which requires college and the like. sure, i earn more money playing poker than anything else i could be doing for the next 5 years, but its a big short term tradeoff financially, so finding the right balance is essential.

5. if poker is the only thing i accomplish in life i think i'll have failed. poker is great in the short term and is working out awesome for me, but it is not a long term plan for life. at least for me, thats the way i see it.

So why can't a good player be a pro making a SICK income off the NL200 fish?

[/ QUOTE ]

Good player can make more from 400NL or 1000NL fishes.

plays 40 hours/week for 50 weeks

[/ QUOTE ]

Not many people can play 40hours/week of poker and maintain their mental health.

[ QUOTE ]
What am I missing here? Is this right?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. It is right.

It is difficult to put 40hours/week but it is very easy and comfortable for pro player to put about 25hours/week
4tabling 200NL for 10PTBB/100 (very possible with only 25hours a week) its like 80$/hour. 50weeksx25hours/weekx80$ = 100 000. Weeee !! 6digits for 3 to 4 hours of sitting in your underwear in front of the monitor.
Yummy.

But you need to be decent player first Good luck !

Best wishes
