I probably have a different spin on this than most so here goes: I define good luck as being in position to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. Therefore I think you can manufacture your own good luck. In poker parlance I think this is what I get out of Skalansky's thoughts on passing up certain +EV bets with low survival rates now to make other +EV bets that win more often later -- even if they have a smaller +EV. That trading a higher +EV for a higher survival rate is, in my mind, the foundation of creating your own good luck in a poker game -- you're putting yourself in a position to take advantage of an opportunity that has yet to surface.

As far as the math goes...when my pocket Aces get cracked by Queens, well, I just shrug that off and hope to make that bet 100 more times in a row. When my 8s suck out a higher pair I know the Karma ghost is going to come gunning for me.
