not true. I have no qualms about taking money when a BJ dealer makes a mistake, but I have never taken an angle in the poker room. The difference between the two is analagous to stealing from wal-mart and stealing from your neighbor.

And everybody who works for Walmart is somebody's neighbor...

Stealing from Walmart is not the same as stealing from one of their employees/Borg drones.... they budget something like a million bucks per year in each store for thieves.

Re: Re cashiers error

If I am the cashier and I gave someone an extra $100, I fully expect them to walk away with it. It's 100% my screw up, not theirs. They're certainly not breaking any rules by keeping it.

Would I give the money back to a chashier? I don't know, probably depends on my personal feelings towards them. If I wanna give them a break, I'd give it back.

I would keep the money. Does that make me a bad person, maybe. I don't cheat at cards, and I don't angle shoot, but money in my hand is money in my hand. There are some holier than thou people in here though. [censored] cracks me up.

this analogy is remarkably relevant to the discussion being had (of course only if the cashier has to front their errors).

does the cashier actually have to pay "discrepancies" in their float out of their own pocket? if this is the case, then the amount I would take is $0. if the casino eats the cost, the amount I would take is anything > $0.

I once made a deposit at the bank drive thru that contained $600. The teller sent me my deposit slip and as I drove off I realized I didn't put the cash in the carrier. I can't imagine how he might have felt if he had to explain a $600 shortage and the end of the day. I took it in and gave it to him. Do what's right because it's right not because you might get caught.

Got a nice lesson from my father about this type of stuff when I was about 6 years old.

Mom was gone for the weekend, and dad took me and my younger brother to Dairy Queen. We ordered, got our stuff (Dilly Bars), and started walking toward the car when he realized the cashier gave him a $5 bill for change instead of a $1 bill. He marched back in, told the cashier what happened, gave the $5 back, and we left. Drove to the park, started eating our ice cream, and by the time we were done with our Dilly Bars, all three of us had won 'Free Dilly Bars' - tough to explain if you haven't been to a DQ, but on Dilly Bars, they used to have, like, 1 in 10 Dilly Bar sticks say 'Free Dilly' on them. My dad points out: 'Boys, this is God's way of rewarding us for being honest and giving the money back.' Sure seemed meaningful at the time, anyway.

Lesson of the story: Return the money to the cashier and you'll always get free ice cream.

I would give back the $500 or $1000, but 100gs i would keep.

Re: Re cashiers error

I'm curious how any of these answers would change if say you cashed out of Party Poker or some other online poker site, and extra money was sent into your bank account or to you via check. Would you alert the site, or just keep the money?

Obviously this wouldn't change anything for the people who would keep extra money at a casino, but how do the people who say they would never keep extra money given to them by a cashier at a casino feel about this?
