I love playing poker. There are pros and cons to online play, but overall, for me, it is far superior to live play. Seems like a lot of people who live in Las Vegas think so too! I think it will only grow in popularity unless the government(s) shuts it down.

Within the next year or two, the bots and the deluge of multitablers will dry out the low-limit fish ponds.

In the last several months, the flop percentages in 2/4 and 3/6 have dropped by over 5%. I think the biggest reason for this are the thousands of multitablers, and it's only going to get worse.

Do you have evidence of this? According to my stats, the percent seeing flop before from May - July at 3/6 was 32.4, and from October on it is 32.7. This is over about 15,000 observed hands for each period. Not a significant change, if you ask me.

My Pokertracker 3/6 stats from a year ago show a 36% flop percentage over 30,000 hands.

The games have started drying up. It will only get worse. If you played May of last year on Party the 3/6 games were absolutely stupid in the evenings. I remember most tables were in the 50's with 4 to a flop with chasing and whackos. Then by about September the 50 dollar table was rare night time treat. You have to remember online play is not rewarding if you only deposit and never cash. Unlike live where you can win and spend the money even if you are a definate long term loser........

Right now, it seems that on line poker is easy money. These situations don't last too long, good players will continue coming in until the the expectation that a capable person can make drops below a certain threshold. That threshold will probably be pretty low since poker is also fun. I don't expect the boom to end so much as the games to get tougher. Of course, growth will slow down.

I think the observation that poker is not much fun if you never withdraw is particularly poignant. If the losing players never make withdraws (even if they amount to a small fraction of their deposits), they will have a much harder time deluding themselves about where they stand.

All in all, I think the fields will be fertile for 1-3 years. After that, I think the game will still have a positive expectation for winning players, but a much lower one; the opportunity just seems too great not to attract enough competent players to drive down expectation.

So maybe party and other sites should change the minimum cashout from $50 to $X? (5<X<40)
