Re: Still missing something

Everything retains the context of the previous thing said. So yes 3x as old as Ann was at the time.

As I read this over, I still get frustrated trying to parse the grammer. I've always hated problems like these.

Re: Are you sure about #2?

I re-read this more closely, and since you mentioned it in all fairness I should tell you can take 1/2 of 9. In other words, the answer is a fraction.

1: 200 new candles / no explaination needed.
2: 27.5 years old / E=2[4.5(E-A)/2-(E-A)] where E+A=44
3: 6,210,001,000 / just had to think about it for a while
4: 156 / Use a series of matrices and eliminate the ones that have no solution without repeating digits.
5: The home-plate Umpire or the Catcher / Baseball, obviously

First three are right (nice solution for #2). For #5 I don't know what you mean, but that's not it.

Re: Another quiz..

For Question #4, here's the system I tried using. It comes up with no solution possible, though, so there's gotta be a flaw somewhere. Maybe somebody else can help me find it...

System: AB * C = DE * F = GHI
First, some logic. Let's eliminate what I CANNOT be. It cannot be 1, since there are no two pairs of numbers that both multiply to a number that ends in 1. 7x3 does, but that leaves the only two other odd numbers as 5 and 9, which obviously doesn't work. "I" can't be 3, 5, or 9 for the same reasons (somebody correct me if I'm wrong here and am missing something that'd work). So that leaves the 2,4,6, and 8.

If I is 2:

That would mean {B and C} and {E and F} are {8 and 4} and {7 and 6}, NOT respecitively. Oh, WAIT! 4 and 3 and 7 and 6 are also possible. Same thing goes with other possibilities for I that I overlooked. I'll have the answer in less than 5 minutes.

My answer for Q4 is:

156. It had the be one of THEE VERY LAST matrices that I tried. Of course..
