IIRC the call flop/bet turn is when you have a decent hand that is very vulnerable. You call the flop and then bet the turn if it's safe. Here, your hand isn't that vulnerable.
(But then again, I'm a newbie)

No this is perfect, you already protected your hand. Sometimes they get there anyway.

I would re-read the chaper in SSH while paying close attention to the pot size, the flop texture, and position of the player betting or raising. Waiting to protect your hand is usually used when the pot is quite large on the flop and/or when your hand is quite vulnerable to numerous cards that could come on the turn. This is an unraised pot with 6 players, and your equity is huge. You played it well.

You faced the field with 2 cold when you raised the flop. Why give everyone the turn for free and then try to protect? Wouldnt you want to protect against 2 cards instead of just the river?
