why in the world would you put him on something that good? because he raised preflop and checkraised the flop against a weak tight player? That changed my read from two cards to...well, he still has two cards.

I would just call with 77.

But your line has merits too.

If the 7 is good then villain most likely has an ace in which case he only has 3 outs most likely a K. I think its harder for him to bet the turn with any number of hands. In general I think villain will have much harder choices to make as more cards come.

I call the raise, and decide to wait for the turn to do anything.

Turn is a 4. Opponent checks. Do I bet here, or try to see the showdown "cheap"?

That was a terrible turn. If you check here he bets the river and you can't call. I think you have to bet T2500.

You are giving the other player a lot of credit for having a big hand. It is possible, but I think unlikely. His check on the turn seemed suspicious as hell to me.

I check behind. River is a J. He bets 2600. Anyone fold?

no, the way you played it means his bet is fairly automatic and you have to call it. i think betting the turn is preferable though, you can get away from a check raise, hopefully buy a free showdown and buy the pot those times he has given up after you've called the flop check raise. also you get to choose the amount that goes into the pot, whereas if you check he gets to choose the amount that goes into the pot.
