The coinstar fees would be HUGE for the nickels. I would obviously still take them and buy a new truck to haul the rest of them around in.

I'd be paying my rent in nickels for a long, long time.

Would you landlord accept a $300 payment in the way of 6,000 nickels?

Man I wish my rent was only $300

I think he is talking about the room he is going to need to rent to hold $100,000 in nickels.

I'd say you couldn't really spend the 100,000 in nickels. You can't cash them in and no one would take them. The only way to do it would be to buy money orders from a bank because I think they have no choice but to take it. If you walked into a grocery store with 100 bucks in nickels and tried to spend it I don't think they'd let you.

Obviously nickels is going to win this poll in a landslide. To make it even close to interesting, the question should be maybe $10,000 in cash vs. $12,000 in nickels -- is it worth the extra 20% to deal with the hassle of the coinage?

You also can't put the nickels in the bank. You keep them at home in bulk and grab em when you need em.

BTW, let's say your rent is $500, I highly doubt your landlord will take 10,000 nickels as payment, since he'd have to count them and cash them in.

i would assume if you offered say 25000 in nickels for a 20000 car they would probably take it. but then again im only assuming.

Who's stopping me from cashing the nickels in?

The pollmaster (me). That's the catch.

Can I deposit them in my bank account?

im sure someone, somewhere could take those nickels and give you cash for them.

if anything, walk into best buy and announce you have 100k in nickels and want to buy a gift card with them. Watch in amazement as an army of CSR's huddle over to you to count the nickels, 10 hours later you have 100k on a giftcard, profit++

It depends on if the car dealership will accept the nickels. Same with college tuition. If not, I'll take the cash please.
