btw, i am officially rescinding my posts about manny being overpaid. the baseball economy has caught up (surpassed?) his deal.

Konerko is still at his peak .. had one of his best seasons in his career last year. Although he may look like he is 40, he's actually only 29.

He's got a pretty good bat for a 1st basemen - but it's not stellar. He's got a career .840 OPS and barely broke .900 last year for the 1st time in his career. I'd have pegged his value at more like 8-9 mil - but seems like everyone is getting paid more than they are worth this offseason.

Okay, sorry it wasn't exactly about him at his peak. FWIW, his peak was probably last season. I wouldn't expect him to exceed that performance next year.

I'm not really hatin' the deal. It's a bit much to pay but Paulie Nerko is a definite star in Chicago. 5 years, though? bit much. I'm indifferent.
