I think there's enough of a chance to fold bigger PP to make a bet here and I can safely fold to raise.

[/ QUOTE ]

A bigger pocket pair would have folded the flop if they were going to fold at all.

That king shouldn't scare you. It actually makes it less likely that villain holds a king. The way you played it I think bet/fold.

[/ QUOTE ]

sounds like a good card to raise for villain then, since he would think we're less likely to have one

[ QUOTE ]

Also, what do you put him on when he calls the flop bet?

[/ QUOTE ]

pocket pair, A high, a 2, a 4, two non-K broadway cards, a K, a set, two pair

He's got a lot of things that he would call the flop with (low pp, A2, A4, A3, A5) even some junk. On the turn I like my chances even more and on the river my thinking was the same as yours. I bet the river and unfortunately got raised. Didn't have the discipline to drop it there. How big a mistake is this? I'm thinking at least 1 BB's worth . Seriously though, I don't think I should've called. At this point the chances of him bluffing are very close to zero.

Won't argue with preflop (although I don't see how this is a "very marginal" call) but the rest of your advise is pretty much

Flop:weak-tight
Turn:weak-tight
River:weak-tight

[/ QUOTE ]

Flop: If not betting into five opponents with 77 makes me weak-tight... Well, I guess I'm weak-tight.

Turn: You didn't pick up the pot on the flop. Big surprise, eh? (I'd slow down here. But I'm weak-tight.)

River: I wouldn't play a pair of sevens from early position to the river. (But then again, I'm weak-tight.)

Preflop: Very marginal call. If the table is really passive, I might consider limping in.

Flop: Check-fold.

Turn: Check-fold.

River: Check-fold.

You missed your set. Let go of your small pocket pair.

Whats wrong with limping 7,7 here ??

do u mean he should raise as he's first in here ??

thanks.

I think you can find a value-bet there. A 5 or even ace high will pay off often enough.
If he raises you can probably fold.

No, I mean he should've folded 77 from EP.

I can't see a passive villain raise hero without a king, especially after our here has represented a king the whole way.

Read Hand 5 in SSH P. 270

"Important: There is a big difference between just betting and calling. Pocket pairs just above the 2nd highest flop card exemplify this point. In this example if the hand had been checked to you, you should definitely bet."

Although I disagree with the rest of your advice, this is actually a pretty good point (actually 4 opponents but I still think I'd want one less player in there to bet this). Problem is your bet has little chance of folding so many opponents on the flop which means you need to follow up with a turn bet (which half the time is another overcard to your pair). So you're guaranteed to spend 3SB on a 5.5SB pot. Since no one can have more than one overcard to the board and it's relatively drawless, you're often losing here when someone calls the flop.

As far as the river on this hand I'd check/fold if the opponent were more passive, but bet/fold in this case.
