A friend's mother told me a story about saving all summer after highschool and not making enough to start college in the fall. Her father took the money to the track, if he won she could enroll, if not she's basically in the same boat anyway - she'll enroll the next year.
Of course the girl's mother (my friend's grandmother) is enraged and crying, but off the father went to put it all on the line.
He won, and now she's a CPA; and if it weren't for that horse, she wouldn't have spent that year in college.

It's funny, just today I walked past a girl talking on her cellphone. The only part of the conversation I heard:
