Yeah, if this is true, it annoys me quite a bit too. I want gamblers to have every opportunity to give me their money. I too would prefer not to play in a cardroom that doesn't allow straddling.

I asked a shift supervisor about it last night (the floormen I asked had no clue) and he said the California Gambling Commission has outlawed the practice of a live straddle in limit hold 'em. It seems like a totally bizzare law and I'm not sure I buy it, but it must be some kind of law because there is no other reason I can think of why the casinos themselves would not allow it.

I thought someone on here might have some information, but I guess they don't. Oh well.

That would make logical sense as Poker is considered to be a skilled card game and CA only allows skilled card games. The practise of straddling is clearly a gamble, thus it is a rule that should not be allowed in a skilled game. But since when does logic matter in politics?

Re: Straddle Inquiry

It is definately not against CA law because a live straddle is allowed in all of the Bay area card rooms...

The person you replied to meant he is so annoyed by straddlers that he won't play with them-- you made the exact opposite point.
Claiming it's CA law to ban straddling pisses me off, though-- why make an excuse and lie to your customers?

I was aware of his point, but wished to show the...(can't find a gentler word for it) idiocy of his position by pretending to assume he meant the opposite.
