If it's the section I'm thinking of, in the example it was 3-bet or capped pre-flop, so you might check-call the flop and then pop them on the turn, since the pot is too big to protect your hand on the flop (and raising the flop might make the pot too big on the turn). Here, there was only one raise PF, so you are able to protect your hand with a flop raise.

This is one of those funny hands where you played it wrong but your opponent played it worse! Classic example of how you make money off of your opponents mistakes You saved at least 2-3 BB on that hand [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Another reason to raise the flop. If you raise and villain 3 bets the flop and/or calls the flop but leads out turn despite your raise, you learn something. It is probably not because he only has one baby pair.
