I asked for weird superstitions. Who doesn't have a clit necklace?

[/ QUOTE ]

It's the only way to get any street cred these days.

A related superstition is the belief that wearing a necklace made of circumcised clitorises will bring good luck, however.

On Okinawa (maybe mainland Japan too) it's bad luck to leave chopsticks stuck in a bowl of rice.

[/ QUOTE ]

this is true in many asian countries - it signifies death

Interesting I didn't know this was across cultures. My first week on Oki, i went with some friends to one of their girlfriend's house. She cooked for us all. Someone left the chopsticks sticking out of his rice and she absolutely flipped out. I mean she went crazy.

My favorite was from a guy from Hong Kong who didn't respond to my feminine charms --

In Chinese tradition, saying someone is wearing a "green hat" means they're a cuckold. And that there's nothing funnier to him on St Patricks Day seeing seas of green plastic hats atop drunken (pseudo-)Irish celebrating the day.

Sh, it's a secret tho

I learned at lunch today from my Indian friend (slurpee Indian, not casino Indian) that according to Indian tradition, if you pass salt hand-to-hand to one another, it means you'll get in a fight with that person.

So you have to put the salt down, then the other guy picks it up.

What other bizarre superstitions are there for various cultures?

a rice bowl with chopsticks sticking out of them is one of the traditional items at a japanese funeral (food for the journey, etc). As i was raised, it's not so much bad luck as extremely rude.

Interesting. So I guess that's where it comes from. Where are you, or your family, from?
