Re: Cheap players in LV

Here's how I see it. I've got 0 experience as a dealer so take it or leave it (and my figures are probably way off). If I'm a dealer making $1 per hand in toke, and say I'm new and can only deal 22 hands / hour. That's and extra $22/hr. I'm taking in. If I can find a way to deal faster, come up with resolutions quicker, and make these calls with confidence so players don't call the floor over... maybe I can get my hands / hour up to 25. That's an extra $3 an hour which is a huge incentive to do better. As a player, you also want 25 h/hr. vs 22 h/hr. because why? you're given more opportunities to make money in the same timeframe. Tipping encourages dealers to deal more hands per hour. not tipping them... why would they give a rats ass if you get more than 20 hands per hour.

Because they work for a casino who has a vested interest in more hands per hour (more rake from each pot, assuming you don't just buy time at the table), and you don't get to keep working there if you can't cut it.

I'm not sure how tips work in Vegas, but where I play, tips to the dealers are spread equally amongst all the floor personnel throughout the casino.

I'n not sure how to start this, because I don't want to be offensive, but somehow I think that dealer tipping is a somewhat strange practice. I mean, I tip a server at a restaurant based on the quality of service, if he or she is considerate, checks in to make sure I have what I need, etc. There's no exact right way to be a server, some general guidelines, but nothing definative.

I agree. I don’t tip because society says I gotta. I tip when somebody deserves a tip. When somebody really puts forth an effort, they deserve a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, that [censored]’s for the birds. As far as I’m concerned, they’re just doin their job.

That's fine, but we're talking about people who don't tip either way.

I never thought dealing was that difficult a task until I went to dealing school.

There are so many factors to running a game you would be amazed at all the things a dealer is doing while smiling at you, and calling the waitress for more cocktails.

And for the most part, there are so many horrible dealers out there. This I know.

I wouldn't even know half the stuff I should be looking for if I had not gone to dealer's school. But since I did, and now I do know honestly you should be worried about who is handling your cards.

A dealer's mantra is to never unjustly influence the outcome of a game. And it's happening every day.

PUshing the pot to the wrong player, reading the board wrong, letting a player who's about to muck his hand know that it's a split pot because of the board..etc.etc.

If you want a clean, effecient honest game then tip dealers you see doing a good job, and let those bad dealers know who they are and why you didn't toke them. Otherwise they will never know why they should improve their skills.

And for those who think the casinos should pay them a decent wage, are you ready for the increased rake?

If you think about it, this is all the tip is. It lets the dealer make alittle more money per hour and it comes from the winner's pot just like rake. In addition, since its called a tip and optional it rewards the dealer thus promoting good service.

Talk to aussie poker players, I think they will disagree with you. I won't quote #'s because I'd be off, but their rake is ungodly and one reason is no tipping.
