Re: Nominations for Best \"Rock\" Album of 2005 - The Hipster Debate

Animal Collective's "Feels" is excellent. People need to hear this. That and "Sung Tongs".

I'm surprised I haven't seen anybody mention them so far.

Re: Nominations for Best \"Rock\" Album of 2005

Since I had The Go! Team on my 2004 list (it was #1), my nominees for 2005 would be:

Idlewild - Warnings/Promises
Decemberists - Picaresque
...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - Worlds Apart
Beck - Guero
The National - Alligator
Death Cab For Cutie - Plans

Yeah because they were both really underwhelming, no? Same reason I haven't tossed out the new Broken Social Scene.

No is correct. Worlds Apart and Plans are the best albums of each respective band's career.

In Your Opinion...

Source Tags and Codes is ridiculous. And I can't get behind Death Cab...all their albums sound that same, but mayhaps Plans is really good, I haven't listened to it.

PS: Wouldn't all of the problems raised by music discussions begin to be solved by not making sweeping generalizations and/or declarative statements...

Good luck changing a long, storied history of indie rocker dialogue. Haven't you seen High Fidelity?
