did you guys see that hand before HU deal talk?

MR32 should have bet less on the river

he'd be getting an even bigger cut then he will now.

Better check the calculamecation if you ever make FT and try to do a deal, LJ pretty much made a howler here. Perhaps it's time for a new 'defacto standard'.

Lee Jones [PokerRoom Manager]: So guys - I was afraid this might happen....
#1PEN: calculator malfunction?
Lee Jones [PokerRoom Manager]: PM has so many chips that his piece of the pie, based on the de facto standard is *MORE* than first place money.
MR32: lol
PokerMillion: [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
Lee Jones [PokerRoom Manager]: I can give you those numbers, but it involves PM getting $141K
#1PEN: umm well i cant agree to give him more than 1st
Lee Jones [PokerRoom Manager]: Kinda didn't think you would.
MR32: true
#1PEN: ill take 73k minimum
Lee Jones [PokerRoom Manager]: Not "my" formula, Rick.
PokerMillion: how about 50k pen? and play for 10k?
MR32: ok, should we just play it out until 2 people
#1PEN: nope, play it out i guess
MR32: ok, gl boys
#1PEN: gl
PokerMillion: ok if thats what u want
PokerMillion: gl
Lee Jones [PokerRoom Manager]: It's a de facto standard that a lot of people use. It has some serious structural flaws, and we ran into one of them.
PokerMillion: congrats, we are winners no matter who finish
PokerMillion: first
MR32: we'll play on lee
Lee Jones [PokerRoom Manager]: plenty cool. One second
#1PEN: yep, gl guys
PokerMillion: gl
MR32: agreed, this is more than i dreamed of winning

Yea..I was surprised by this. It's like saying that because #1pen as so few chips that he deserves less than 3rd place money when he gets that no matter what.

This is the most rediculous chopping practice I've ever heard.

This is how a chop should be done.

FIRST: *REMOVE* all the 3rd place money. It is locked up.

*THEN* do the calculation. Duhhhh.

You would think in a .5M prizepool event, people would know how to do basic math.

Lee made a mistake, he just admitted. Poor PokerMillion.

Re: Lee Jones dropping mathemagical bombs

i don't think lee was insuating that #1Pen would be getting less than 3rd place, simply that PokerMillion would be getting more than 1st.

and there are situations where this could happen.

to look at an extreme clear example:
1st gets 100k
2nd gets 50k
3rd gets 10k

now assume someone has 90% of the chips in play and the ohter two have 5%

they agree to have a deal count, and both 2nd and 3rd in chips are worried about going out in 3rd.

the guy in 1st says "the only way ill chop is to have 110k, and you can both have 25k. else you risk only winning 10k."

then again this type of situation can be countered by the two short stacks saying "well we will just chop up 2nd and 3rd place money between ourselves and it won't matter what order we finish in."

but i am not sure if that counts as active collusion.

Let's call it the Copenhagen Collusion Committee. The alliteration makes it sounds better. More memorable.

More memorable, yes, but might not make the Danes too happy.

Copenhagen is a Danish city, not Dutch.

Mmm... danish.

And MR32 won? That's horrible.

This works in that scenario, prize money is usually balanced to avoid such scenarios.

Code:

Allocation of prize money
Chip count 1st 2nd 3rd Totals Money

50 5.0% 5,000 45.5% 22,750 49.5% 4,950 32,700 1st 100,000
900 90.0% 90,000 9.0% 4,500 1.0% 100 94,600 2nd 50,000
50 5.0% 5,000 45.5% 22,750 49.5% 4,950 32,700 3rd 10,000

1,000 100.0% 100.0% 100.0% 160,000 160,000

Seems fairly simple, gets a bit crazy for 4 people plus though, but I guess there is a more simple way of getting the answers than mine.
