I think Ben Stiller is a no talent hack

This statement couldn't be further from the truth.

Think about his character from Happy Gilmore. Now think about his character from Dodgeball. Now think about his character from his appearence on Arrested Development, Tony Wonder. See any similarities?

Now think about There's Something About Mary, and Meet the Parents, and Meet the Fockers, Zero Effect, and Keeping the Faith. Think about it.

At least I said I think. I don't think he is funny at all. Just an opinion.

I think if you leave out action-comedies you lose a lot of hilarious films, like Midnight Run and Beverly Hills Cop.

Heathers, Fargo, and Being John Malkovich all fall under the heading of "Black Comedy" - most certainly comedies. And I'm sorry, anyone who doesn't see "Fargo" as a comedy wasn't paying any attention. Almost every scene is hilarious. I can see unnominating "GoodFellas," that's not that funny.
Not saying I support "Malkovich" - I think it's horribly pretensious (sp?) and not that funny at all. But I do think they were going for funny.

Thank you Bout. How many times are we going to have to see this guy act like a jackass.

Not necessarily comedies, but movies which made me laugh the most when I first saw them:

A Fish Called Wanda: especially Kevin Kline

Alladin: Robin Williams unhinged

Analyze This: "Him I don't know."

Arthur: John Gielgud, of all people, was the comedy star

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels: "Rupret!"

Fargo: "You should see the other guy"

Goodfellas: Pesci

Good Morning Vietnam: Robin William unleashed

Planes, Trains & Automobiles: I wasn't a John Candy fan, but he was wonderful here

Rainman: "We're counting cards"

[/ QUOTE ]

Since OP said we could claim some nominations as not being pure comedies: sorry, but I'm suggesting an unnominating of Goodfellas and Fargo.

Does that mean I can't nominate Saving Private Ryan? IIRC, someone cracks a joke in the movie.

"and that's it and that's the only thing I need, is this. I don't need this or this. Just this ashtray. And this paddle game, the ashtray and the paddle game and that's all I need. And this remote control. The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the remote control and the lamp and that's all I need. And that's all I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one - I need this. The paddle game, and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches, for sure. And this. And that's all I need. The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair."

"He hates these cans! Stay away from the cans!"

Love that movie. I have a very juvenile sense of humor. The Jerk, Dumb and Dumber, Van Wilder, etc. Anything with potty humor gets my vote.

Nice choice there though.

How have we made it this far without Clerks?

Also, the other Kevin Smith movies in whatever order you like (after Clerks).

FWIW I think Office Space, Super Troopers, The Big Lebowski, and Caddyshack are some of the best choices mentioned so far.
