Your posts in this thread feel like you're ignoring that this new, laggier style has been talked about a ton in HUSH as of late. I'm not saying that it's good or bad, but it feels like you're brushing off all the thought that's gone into this.

My post says nothing of the sort. Read it again and really THINK about what I'm saying with the range of hands and the disparity between the results.

Are you suggesting high cards rule?

I find it suprising that people are raising A8s and A7s more than A9o from utg. I'm confused.

They shouldn't. However, people are more comfortable playing A7s, A8s postflop than A9o because of flush draws, etc.

when you're raising OOP I think suitedness becomes important given the same high card power. when you have an A high hand, and it gets headsup with the button, or 3-way with the button and a blind, A high will often be good at showdown, especially if it's headsup to the turn. the nice thing about being suited is you can get to showdown a lot more. sometimes you get raised on the flop or turn and don't have odds to call down 2 or 2.5 bets, but with a flush draw (or backdoor on the flop), you can call the turn, and might feel he's bluffing enough to call the river. I feel like these things are especially important out of position. so I feel like I'd rather have A8s than A9o. granted I'd much rather have KJo than KTs or AQo than AJs in a semi-tight game like 10/20-30/60 short on party

Any chance you might be able to elaborate?

On a sidenote, I often see people voice different opinions about the value of suitedness, and usually the opinions consist of simple declarations about the value or lack of value of suited cards, without any genuine attempt at explanation.

Is there any real way of proving whether A8o is more or less valuable than A7s?

i voted with the majority on all but the first 4. as a default i fold the first 3 and raise QJo. maybe that doesn't make sense.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it's tough to argue QJo is stronger than QTs.

on the button after limpers maybe, but when you're likely to be playing up against 2 players with top 40% hands, QTs is dominated more often. I'd rather have A8s than A9o as I just posted but other than that I like the high card value

I ran A8s up against a typical button cold caller and blind caller. A8s ran at 37%. A9o is running at around 36%. A8s will win you more money postflop too. making the nuts way outweighs the times 8s are no good but 9s are good
