View Full Version : Wrong to try and slow play this???

02-03-2004, 01:59 PM
2nd hand of the tourney. I usually like to stay out of anything for the first few rounds and let the weaker players eliminate themselves and get a read on the hands people play and bet. Maybe I fit into the weaker player after this beat. I am in Seat 8. Did I jump the gun? Should I have tried to slow play this type of hand?

I don't think anything would have changed if you had played differently.
AQ was going to call the whole way, most likely.

Brutal - but it looks like suzy was doing the slowplaying here.

I think you had plenty of clues that suzy's hand was reasonably strong and that you could be in trouble.

I think your only chance to win this hand would have been to put a stronger move (pot size?) on your flop raise. I pretty much don't bet less than the pot in SnGs - mini bets just give too much odds for the fisherman. If you get a call on that bet, I think you can safely assume you're facing trouble. Not knowing the player, she may or may not have laid down the big ace facing a pot size bet on the flop.

Big bet flop, and call weak turn bet - hopefully she'll make a bigger bet to scare me out but it looks like she was setting a trap for you.

Tough decision on calling any thing big on river, but had I gone that far without any other clues, I probably would have been in trouble when my boat filled. If there hadn't been any K,Q,J,T on the board, I'd have to call for sure, but with a typical PFR match on the board, I'm hoping I'd have the sense to bail.

I'm not sure what you put her on when she came over the top on the turn, but I'm hoping that would have been good enough for me to get out. I'd have to give her credit for at least QQ (which would have been ahead of you at that point.) She did raise preflop from SB.

Looks like a bit of bad luck combined with some missed clues and some good play on her part got ya there.

Limping early with A2s is likely fine but I wouldn't do it everytime.

On the flop, suzy bets 15 and the pot has 150 and you raise 25? What exactly are you trying to do with that raise? Make it 130 or so. Charge the guy to hit his 2nd pair.

On the turn I also don't like the initial raise. I would make it bigger as well. Another big card isn't exactly the best card for you.
