I walked through Harrah's today and saw a new roulette setup which the floor person says was brand new and one-of-a-kind so far on the Strip. The game is called "Rapid Roulette" and all the rules are the same as regular roulette.

The game has a regular roulette wheel and a normal human dealer who spins the ball and announces the winning number. However, it does not have a typical betting field. Instead, the wheel is surrounded by ten computer terminals in which players place their bets electronically (a lot like video keno).

The floor person was optomistic that it would be successful and spread quickly. All ten terminals were filled up when I walked by.

Sounds like a pretty goofy idea to me. Wonder why they didn’t just put in 10 slot machines and save the dealer’s salary.

Because some people like to watch the little white ball bounce and see the wheel spin.

I thought sure I've seen these in Vegas before (maybe at Caesars). Perhaps it was at Atlantis, and not in Vegas, I just casually walked through a pit somehwere and thought it looked pertty cool.

They launched that in Vancouver a few months ago. I don't know whether they use the name "Rapid Roulette", however. Maybe.

Next thing, they'll have video terminals in the casino where you can play poker online.
