Andy Bloch was on it and he got kicked out of the Golden Nugget because he is a card counter and was trying to play bj. Why is this guy trying to cheat a casino when he is an established poker pro?

Just thought it was a bit odd.

Card counting is not illegal. It is however a way to give yourself +EV against the house and the house does have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

OK Illegal might have been the wrong word to use..lets say un-ethical. either way if he is so good at poker why would he risk being marked as a counter and not being allowed in any casino?

Casinos aren't going to ban him from playing poker, slots or craps. They just will not accept his action at blackjack.

It was all faked anyway, and a nice advertisement for full tilt poker.

But card counting is not illegal or unethical.

I saw it and was quite skeptical. It was definitely staged. I mean, they even had footage of Andy outside talking to his "partner in crime" (I use that term loosely). What grifter would allow that to happen?

Big advertising opportunity for Full Tilt Poker though.

Actually, he got 86'ed, which means he's forbidden from setting foot on the property. If he goes back to the Golden Nugget, even to play poker, he can be arrested for trespassing.

Having said that, the whole thing was obviously staged.

Card counting is neither illegal nor unethical. A card counter is using his brain and information that is available to all players to gain a small advantage over the house. I don't have a problem with a casino refusing the action of a card counter. IMO, it is no different ethicaly from a poker player leaving a game if he realizes that the competition is strong enough that he is at a disadvantage. OTOH, confiscating chips, back-rooming and other intimidation tactics on the part of the casino against a card counter are unethical, IMO.

Andy Bloch SO good at poker? You're talking about the guy that lost $30 million in one year.

Granted he was being cheated out of some of it...

ANyway I'm sure he's a better player than a lot of the people on this board its just that he has such awful game selection...

I just find it somewhat odd to say soemone is great at poker when they've lost more in a year than they could probably ever make back in poker.

Granted money is no object to him so it doesnt really matter.

The ones who call card counting "illegal" & or unethical are the ones who knowing about it.

If you play BJ and don't count, you may as well walk in the casino, hand them your money, then leave.

And to answer the original posters question. No, I didn't watch "Casino" last night. :-)

To reitarate what others have said, "card-counting" is neither illegal, or unethical.

Read "Bringing Down the House"

It's about the MIT card-counting teams. 'Nuff said.
