Mike Petriv's Odds Book

Is Mike Petriv's Holdem Odds book any good? I am thinking of buying it. Does anybody know where I can find it?

Its an excellent probability refresher and demonstrates the poker applications very well. I'm not sure it would be good for a first timer, which is why the thread 3 or 4 below this talks about more basic proabilility texts.

I got mine at either Conjelco or Gamblers Book Club. Both probably have it (or are they different names for the same store?)

My copy just arrived today from Gamblers' Book World. From a first glance it looks like it does not assume any knowledge of probability or combinatorics, but it does assume poker knowledge.

I hope to read it this weekend and offer a review next week.

I agree that it doesnt assume any prior knowledge, but as I recall the examples are pretty much limited to poker. A more basic text that uses some simpler scenarios to introduce permutations and combinations might help some first timers.

BTW, it might not have been said in this thread, but many of the proabilities one might be interested in are too tedious to calculate, even with a spreadsheet with COMBIN functions. Having software that accepts card input and generates either stochastic or precise results is necessary eventually.

"Hold'em Odds" has a long intro to basic probability concepts. It would be good education on that aspect alone, IMHO. I'm sure that any high school graduate of average intelligence would be able to plunge right through. (The book starts by explaining fractions, FGS!)
