Help with my comp problems

I have a compaq laptop with window XP. I have 2 user names on my comp and 1 of them is messed up somehow. Whenever I try to use that user name my comp freezes up and wont run any applications. Even after pressing ctrl alt dlt the thing is still stuck. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button for the thing to turn off completely.
Anyone know what the prob is?

Boot up in Safe Mode and check that particular user's msconfig for any programs you might not want running.
