Default Microsoft excel/batch files

At work i have an overnight process that is scheduled to run at 1am. Here are the restrictions:

1) the computer must be on with an instance of excel already open. If it is not open, excel will open when the batch runs, and request a user name/password for a certain addin (morganmarkets RDI for any/all familiar)

2) it must run in excel

every now and then, it just doesnt run. the code (it is VBA, in a macro) is fine, 100% no problem. anyone know how i can fix this or what it might be?
