2001fp USB cable

My 2001fp just arrived and the assembly instructions tell me to connect a USB cable from my computer to my monitor. Why? I unplugged it a second ago and nothing happened, the monitor is still connected to the computer through the regular cable. The documentation makes no explanation of the usb. Thanks.

There are 4 usb ports on the 2001fp that can be used if you connect the monitor to the computer via usb. If you do not wish to use the ports, then don't connect the usb cable.

I use the usb ports on my monitor to upload pics from my digital camera with incredible ease.
