monitor trouble

i just got a new monitor so i can play 8 tables at once, and a new video card because my primary one only has one slot. i installed the driver for the new video card with no problem. however, the screen is blank. the solution that i've been reading is to select the secondary monitor icon on the settings tab of the display panel, but there is none!
what secondary monitor icon?
i'm on windows xp.

someone please help?
my device manager detects the new video card and says its working properly and enabled. however, under monitors, theres only one monitor, plug and play monitor.

No, I do not. It just shows my one monitor on my original video card.

How do I get it to show that?

Does your video card have two output plugs? If so, try switching the monitor cable to the other one.
Also, if your video card has dual outputs, you will need to install special software for this. (e.g., nView for nVidia)
Also, your monitor should have come with a CD or floppy with software that you need to install so the OS recognizes the specific monitor.

Neither of my video cards has two output plugs. My original video card is DVI, and my new one is VGA. However, my new monitor did not come with any installation software. It's the NEC MultiSync FE 1250+. I got it from ebay. I downloaded a driver for it but that didn't do anything. Where can I get the software?

Actually both of my video cards have one VGA connection. Both of my monitors work with my old video card, but neither one seems to work while connected to my new video card. Device manager says the card is connected and working properly.

When I upgraded from win98 with 2 video cards to XP-home a while back I discovered that XP-home does not support 2 video cards unless they are specified in the compatible hardware list.
Even some of the cards on the list didn't do it.
I had to get a dual display video card for XP.
XP-pro does support most 2 video card setups I hear.

Another possibility is that if one of the cards is AGP and the other PCI, set the PCI to the primary card in the CMOS setup. That might help.

well CMOS/Bios menus are different from PC to PC but if you get to the cmos screen look for PCI configuration, it might be under the advanced tab.
Then look for something like "Primary VGA bios" and you should be able to set that to either AGP or PCI.
IT will probably default to agp if you have an agp card.
