Kasparov vs. Deep Junior

Anyone catch this? Looks like Kasparov lost his nerve right at the end. He seemed to have a clear advantage over Junior but decided to first offer and then accept a draw. It's tough to say the greatest chess player was afraid but his post match interview would seem to show he was. He said against a human he would have played on and won the match but knew if he made one mistake against the computer he would lost. And his goal coming in was "not to lose."

Sounded like a soccer match. He's still the greatest.

he said he could have won game 5 defending against Bxh2+ attack but he respected computers computational abilities.

personally i think he thought if he lost again he would just look too silly but still a great accomplishment for him.

but if he was 25 (in attitude) he wouldve won the match.

I followed most of it, listening to Fed on chess.fm too.

I liked K's final position and wished to see it played out.

Fed thought he was better at the end, but Shabalov liked the
computers position so who knows. I haven't seen any followup
analysis.

It was also reported at the end that Kasparov had a bad
headache, not sure if that was real either.

I was really surprised by his draw offer and acceptance. His position seemed "much" stronger by GM standards.

Interview afterwards seemed liked Deep Blue spooked him some, so he was happy not to lose.

All things being equal the computer must have the advantage the last match. Kasparov is likely tired due to the stress of the match and all the media attention. If it were a human obviously things equal out but the computer will always play as programmed.

Fun to watch...was disappointed to not see an endgame though.
