Sound recording software?
I need recommendations for a shareware music program that would allow me to record whatever is playing on my computer. Basically, I need to make new files out of what's playing instead of copying/downloading actual files. This can't be too uncommon, but I thought the quality might differ enough to throw this one out to you guys.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Sound recording software?
What kind of sound output are you trying to capture? Winamp output, just soundcard output in general?
You can hook a small audio cable from your output to your line in. It's not 100% perfect but unless you're trying to achieve some world class audio, it might do the trick. Those cables are very cheap. There's a program called RipVinyl (I think it's www.ripvinyl.com) that will do this pretty cheaply as well. |

Re: Sound recording software?
Thanks LetYouDown.
I want to do two things. First, as you suspected, I want to take some vinyl tracks and put them on an iPod. Second, I have access to this music service called Rhapsody that allows you to listen to thousands of albums but charges you for downloads... Any suggestion about this latter arrangment would be very helpful. But thanks for the tip about ripvinyl! Sam |
