Default Why is this?

I set up the following situation at http://www.twodimes.net/ using pokenum hand analyzer.

It's 4 player 7 Stud hi/low 8 or better

Player A [Ac 4c] 2h
Player B [Ah 4h] 2c
Player C folded As
Player D folded Ad

So, aces are dead and the hands are tied.

The results are here.

Running: pokenum -mc 500000 -7s8 ah 2c 4h - ac 2h 4c / as ad :
7-card Stud Hi/Low 8-or-better: 500000 sampled outcomes
cards scoop HIwin HIlos HItie LOwin LOlos LOtie EV
2c Ah 4h 138314 248172 249789 2039 199049 69643 10859 0.498
Ac 4c 2h 139829 249789 248172 2039 200383 68929 10859 0.502

-----

I ran the simulation several times, same results.

Notice the edge by player B.

I'm assuming the results are approaching 50% each, but haven't gotten there because of an insufficient sample size?

Thanks

Default Re: Why is this?

It's a "fault" with the program.

1-Notice that it is not running all possible results. It's only calculating 500000 random hands. So it's to be expected there will be a slight difference between the two hands, due to randomness

2-The site states "Results with the same parameters are cached", so no matter how many times you rerun it, if you have the exact same cards in the exact same order, you'll get the exact same results. Try running it again, but switch the order of two of the cards. You'll probably see a difference. Also try running it using different suits.

Here's my results:
Running: pokenum -mc 500000 -7s8 as 2s 4h - ah 2h 4s / ac ad :
7-card Stud Hi/Low 8-or-better: 500000 sampled outcomes
cards scoop HIwin HIlos HItie LOwin LOlos LOtie EV
As 2s 4h 138304 248342 249632 2026 199148 69313 10842 0.499
4s Ah 2h 139691 249632 248342 2026 200555 68796 10842 0.501

Thanks Ray...

That's the reply I was looking for.

Now, I just have to show the clowns I play against and tell them I got it off of the internets leading poker forum.

They'll never fold a heart again!

LOL
