Default dog or favorite - how do you figure?

I read that QQ is a 6 to 5 favorite over AK. In the 89 WSOP, Chan said his A7 was a 3 to 2 dog to Hellmuth's 99. Other hands are 11 to 10 dog. How are these odds calculted?

You would go through every possible board and determine if it would result in hand 1 winning, hand 2 winning or a tie. Hand 1's odds would then be the number of boards that result in hand 1 winning divided by the number of boards that result in hand 2 winning. Actually calculating this is easily done with a simple computer program that actually steps through all the possible boards and counts the winning results for each player. You can also calculate this by hand, although it can be a little tricky (you have to make sure you account for all boards exactly once). If there are any specific hands you want to compare, a useful website that runs these calculations for you is http://www.twodimes.net/poker/
