Default Lapse in Security?

I really don't think enough was done to prevent this tragedy. Sure, 20/20 hindsight I know. But consider that several sources are now reporting that bin laden's organization threatened an unprecedented attack on US interests just 3 weeks prior to hijackings. I have not heard any reports that domestic airport security was beefed up in any way. This should have been the first obvious precaution.

I am a regular visitor to the US Department of State's website to check their travel warnings (http://travel.state.gov/travel_warnings.html). It's a good concise source to see what's going down around the world.

On September 7 the Department of State posted a Worldwide Travel Warning. They obviously received some credible threats. They should have *at least* announced that they would be taking security precautions at domestic airports. Actually, they should have instituted some precautions. As far as I know they did neither of these.

What really angers me is that the Department of State has now (as far as I can tell)removed this September 7 warning from their website (their practice is to NOT remove these), and replaced it with one dated AFTER the tragedy. This tells me that they now realize that not enough was done. For the sake of the victims the Federal Government needs to stand up and take responsibility for any mistakes they made...not cover them up. Perhaps they plan on doing this when things settle down a bit. I hope so. If adequate precautions were not taken I think the victim's families should be compensated.
