Default The beginnings of a trip report - a million 2+2ers in AC(long, woops)

Well I got a PM from gonores early last week saying that he, FSUplayer, bunky, some frineds of FSUplayer from college, sfer, bdk3clash, turnipmonster, and a few others were going to make the trip down to Atlantic City, and since I hadn't been down to AC in a while I figured I'd head down and join them. I'm sure one of them will have more to say about their trip than just the night I was there, but since it was such a blast, I figured I'd share my version.

So I get into the Borgata around 3:30 and find gonores in a pretty good 20 40 game and I get seated almost immediately. We start jabbering back and forth and the table loosens up quite a bit, and he introduces me to about 309109 2+2ers that happened to be down, and in spite of being stuck about 1200, I'm having a blast.

So we break for dinner and seat 10 people in the Noodle Bar at the Borgata. We talk about interesting things like Poker and we're much rowdier than par for the course here(especially since Doug and I had been drinking fairly heavily already). We laugh at gonores for getting the most expensive thing on the menu which looks like brains in a raw egg sauce, but soon, enough, it's back to the poker room.

So we're still riding high when we reseat ourselves in the 20 40 --- we start talking about arranging a 3/6 game with all of us when the "turning point" hand comes. There is one guy at the table who I guess wrote a book about gambling or something and he's been befriending me and gonores the whole time --- he's also a big table coach and just can't stop complaining about his bad beats. We keep trying to change the subject, but it stays harmless and people keep playing badly and it's really not that big a deal. But then I get dealt J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] right after I hit a mini-rush and am almost even. So some fish who has been playing literally any 2 and killing me limps, Mr. table coach limps and I raise it up behind him. Both blinds come and it's 5 to the flop for 2 bets.

Flop is K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] They all check about as fast as anyone can check and as I put some chips out I mutter, "Ok, check, check, check" and the dealer interprets it as a check and I'm like whoawhoawhoawhoawhoa but he turns a 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and still has his hand on it when Mr. Table coach flips out and says "NO HE CHECKED, YOU CAN'T SAY CHECK BECAUSE SAYING CHECK IS BINDING" and the other old people in the hand start agreeing and so I start arguing, but eventually just said, "OK dude, I don't even care, I'd argue for principal but it doesn't even matter, I'm here to have fun." So anyway it's checked to me again and this time I very clearly say "I BET!" It's folded to the table coach who now check-raises me and I go to three-bet, but think, Jesus Christ, there is a reason he fought so hard for that damned turn card, he must have the flush. So I call him down and the river is the 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] He bets and I pay him off and he proudly tables 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and says "Perfect turn for me" and now I get pumped up and table my jacks and the whole table laughs at the poor guy as he puts his head back and closes his eyes like he's in sheer agony. He takes two laps around the table and now I'm just annoyed because I'm here to drink and have some fun and all of the commotion has been a huge buzzkill. But F that, I had been sympathizing with his bad beat stories all damn day and then he tried to pull one on me so I'm not even looking at him now, wallowing in his sadness. He eventually taps me on my shoulder and says, "JD, I got what I deserved, man." And I just said, "I know." and decided it was almost time to rack up.

So now Doug(gonores) and I try to arrange a 3/6 game with all two plus twoers but the floor won't give us our own table, so we do it the old fashioned way. We look at the list which was like 40 people long and instead just walk over to where Bunky is sitting(we had all planned to just get on the list and do table changes, but Doug and I both missed our names getting called). One seat was already open and another was just opening up so we just sat down without any questions and got colored down to white chips. And then the fun started. We go see SFer and bdk3clash getting beaten up in a 6/12 and try and tell them to come over to the 3/6 to get unstuck because Doug and I have been raise-three-betting pretty much every hand since we both finished up in the 20 game. As soon as a seat opens up we lock it for SFer, bdk3clash decides to go home but now we've got a rowdy as heck 3/6 game going on with typical pots being about 15-20 BB(or more if someone gets a pair). FSUplayer finally finds us and sits in the game as well, and now the fish are really in trouble.

So just so we're on the same page: 1 Seat, total fish
2 seat: a 3/6 pro with lots of advice for us
3 seat: 2 seat's butt buddy
4 seat: A guy who played with us for 3 hours and showed down AA and AK.
5 Seat: FSU player
6 seat: SFer
7 Seat: gonores
8 seat: me
9 seat: bunky
10 seat: loose woman(haha)

So a ton of hands come to mind as I think about the hazy experience that was last night, but there were a couple real stars.

SFer open raises, gonores three-bets and I make the value cap with 97s. It's called 6 ways and we go 6 to the flop for four bets. Flop is a gorgeous K86r. Checked to Sfer who bets, gonores thinks and folds, I raise, 1 cold call, SFer reraise, I smoothe call, another call behind us. Turn is an amazing 9. SFer bets, I raise, fish mucks, SFer insta-three bets and I know I might have him beat on the river so I 4 bet because I'm not letting him bitch me around. Well he insta-five bets and now I'm praying for outs. River blanks about as bad as it could've blanked and he bets out fast again. The pot is big now and I gain a lot of information if I call so I do. He shows K9. Can you believe he raised that sh!t under the gun? Gay. So I'm going to muck but unfortunately SFer remembers the last 3 hands he has tried to muck at showdown that I've politely asked the dealer to turn up so I could gain information on his hand. So he reaches for my cards, and in my haste, I put them in my back pocket. The dealer is starting to look really nervous so I pull them out and put them in the muck and mix them all around. So for some reason the dealer calls the floor even though I tell him I'll give him 5 bucks not to. Luckily he doesn't rat me out and we just get a new setup and now it's time to bust these fish.

So now it's about 5 AM and bunky decides to call it quits like he was going to at 2 but couldn't because we were having so much damn fun. Doug gets yelled at by the floor on two separate occasions, one time for being excited about winning a hand and then later on because he looked at my cards. What a cheater. We got sternly reprimanded by the floorman because if we see eachother's cards then we will glean unfair information about the way the other plays. Not fair to the 3/6 pros on the other end of the table(even though this sort of thing is routine in the 20 40 and the 40 80).

So people are just running from this game faster than you can imagine and calling us idiots and so on and so forth(though they stopped when Doug offered to raise the stakes to 40 80). Eventually my favorite dealer, Leon, comes over and is already laughing when he sees us in this game. He knows he can look forward to being tipped red chips and sees all the coronas and just can't stop laughing. But then he does on his second hand because I convinced him we were playing a mixed game. The next game was supposed to be stud 8 or better. So he actually reaches for the deck to deal it out and we're like, "just kidding" and he cracks up and now even the 3/6 pros are laughing, a little. They're there for the grind and when we tourists are in town, it's time to make some money. Now it's like 6:30 and we're bout to leave and another great hand comes up where FSUplayer announces, "give me a card higher than an 8 and I'll cap it!) and does. He flops the 2nd nut straight only to come a second away from being blown off it on the river of KTJJQ (he had Q9) when Doug raised him wiht 62s. I think Doug made a good play because I was also reading FSUplayer for weakness(he claimed later than even after he looked at his hand he thought he was just drawing to hearts). I think he might have one if FSUplayer didn't "river" the straight which made it an easy call.

Well now Doug and I are just wasted and it's almost 7 oclock so we all decide to leave. SFer catches the bus back to New York and posts a hand at 10 oclock because he's just that dedicated and FSU and Doug agree that I can crash on their floor. We are headed for the room, FSU is telling some sort of story and Doug is literally about to fall asleep on his feet when a nice young lady by the elevator who seemed to be waiting for someone asked us if we'd like some company up in our room. I declined on our behalf(which was good considered how drunk I was) but the best part was that FSU didn't hear her proposition us and he kicked himself for being in the middle of the story when she offered. Poor guy.

Well there's more to be said I'm sure but those guys were there for a while and they can tell it from their perspective. I had a blast meeting up with them and hope we can get some more 3/6 action in the future.
Peace,
James

Excellent (and hilarious) trip report. The 97 hand reminds me of the many antics my friends and I have pulled in the Pink Chip Game at the Trop. Sounds like you had alot of fun!

Thanksgiving weekend couldn't come sooner as my friends and I will be lighting a 6-12 game on fire.

Haha, the pinkchip game is always great. This game last night would've been good too, but I had a -50 BB downswing, idiots kept sucking out on me.

Always remember. Variance is your friend. Rinse and Repeat when necessary. The friends I've met in the Pink Chip Game -- well...they're nutz.

nice report james, it was great meeting you and everyone else. I'd just like to point out that I suck for missing the 3/6 game.

the highlight of my evening session was two players who almost got into a fight basically inciting most of the table to challenge each other to 10k heads up freezeouts (I am still not clear on why). also some guy getting allin against this guy with KK (who was stuck at least 7k) preflop with QTo. the best part was after QT guy CALLS the allin, he looks at his opponent and says with 100% seriousness "I've got the queen". and flips over his cards. of course the flop has a T and the river is of course a Q. good times.

Default Best Poker Game Ever

great report james.

I had more fun playing in that 3/6 game than i ever had playing poker in my life. It sure help that I flopped the nuts 5 or 6 times and had other monsters like mid pair on several other occasions.

To add a few things:

Sfer finally learned his lesson about isolating me about 2 hrs in after his repeated efforts to 3 bet my (almost always) blind open raises were futile as soon as he did, doug or james would yell "cap it!" and toss in twelve.

to get an idea of the typical game it was somewhat like this. (assume james282's button)

3/6 pros fold fold fold fold. I open raise bc the dealer was kind enough to give me two cards before any of the other 2+2 bozos. just as I said raise, "3bet, cap it" was heard within a half second from the fishies on my left.

my fav. hand.
i open raise in EP with 97o to try and steal the blinds. it almost works but then sfer stops looking at the hot asian waitress and realizes he is still breathing and has cards, so he 3 bets, dougiefish caps, NPA james calls four cold and a 3/6 pro calls four cold (ruh roh).
flop: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
so i bet out with my gutshot and two overs to protect my hand and clear up some outs, it doesnt work as sfer raises, doug folds, james 3 bets, and 3/6 pro cold calls, so I cap for value.
turn(I check dark):8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
what a card!
Sfer bets, james raises 3/6 guy calls and again I cap for value.
river was of course an offsuit 10 for the sneaky uber-nuts (was there ever any doubt??)

I decide I dont want sfer to check behind like a nit, so I lead out, sfer cooperates yet again by raising, 3/6 pro calls again I 3bet and the fishies call.
The nuts play here boys? (i hear the 3/6 pro mutter something about he knew his pocket sevens were good the whole way. silly guy)

yes, that hand were I said i would cap if my card was higher than eight further demonstrated my domination of the table. flopped the straight with the straight flush redraw. dougie did make me want to vomit with his river raise, but the pot was something like 20-30 BB's so I made a crying call to see that unlike gonores, my hand, did in fact, improve the board.

the game was a blast, and after easily tipping away 10-15BB's (including a buck to one cute chick dealer for everycard 10 or higher before I would openraise), I finished up about 65BB's, which considering the way I have been running at the 10-20 6 max, was HUGE for me .

sfer and james are two of the funniest people I have ever met. sfer kept making repeated comments during a deck change that we should all "watch out!" bc the yellow man know how to play the yellow cards! (he is asian and the borg has these hideous yellow backed cards)

I am still upset at the fact that I missed getting solicited from a prostitute for the first time.

great to meet all you guys, I would love to do it again ASAP!

Sounds like a real good time.

Yeah, beware of those Borgata 3/6 pros. The only people worse than them are the 2/4 pros.

I'm glad to see that the Saturday night 3/6 game was the best experience ever in a casino for someone else besides me.

I was gonna leave around 2:00 and wound up staying til 5 am. Was having so much fun I couldn't leave.

All the guys were great. I had a fantastic time on Thursday night with Dougie, Mike and his friends.

James it is always a pleasure my man. thanks for rolling my name on those lists while I was in the car BTW.

Sfer was all I could imagine and more. A really great guy and a blast to hang out with.

Bdk3clash. Brad was cool, Stop being such a weak tight nit bud. You'll thank me for it.

Turnipmonster. One of my most respected posters in midhigh PLNL. Nice to put the name with the face. Next time come sitr the 3/6 or at least say goodbye. Well... I'llsee you when I come to the city anyway I assume.

All in all two of the most fun nights I've ever had in a casino. Thanks to all and I hope this is not the last get together we have.

Oh yeah, Evan and boom boom must have been too scared to come or something. Josh I'll let off the hook for obvious reasons.

Although my excuse is lame (I had a shitload of school work) Chris' is definitely lamer, he claims he "wanted to be arounf this weekend". What the hell does that mean?

Yea, Josh got away with one through clever scheduling.

Bunky, hope we see you in NY soon. To the rest of you guys, sorry I missed it, sounds like fun.
