Default How to Find a Shark

I live in the NYC area and I am in need of fast financing from a non-traditional lender. read: loan shark. I am in dire need of $7000 to pay back rent and school tuition, and have no family and no friends with this kind of money. I am agreeable to a ridiculous interest rate due to the gravity of my situation (I will be evicted soon). Any suggestions or know someone who can help me? PM me, I would be willing to pay you a referal fee once I get the loan. Thanks community for your help. (flames expected)

I'd rather owe $7000 to my school than some guy named Gramma.

Make sure you get the rent paid, go to you school and plead with any financial officer who will listen to your situation. Eventually, you will find somebody who will help.

If you are a student, there are lots of options for not-completely-ridiculous private loans. You need to go to your school's Financial Aid Office.

If you are out of school, eff your student loans. Make them wait. Get your other business taken care of.

Good call.

Personally, I'd put $7000 down with "Gramma" on the over on Monday Night Football. A true bail-out-special.

He's probably an Indepdentent Financial Advisor with some company like American Express. This means he's a fancy salesperson, who makes a comission every time he gets someone to invest through him. It requires almost no background in finance, usually they just want a BA. It's kind of like an affiliate job.

Somehow I suspect it - I don't know ANY school, really, that won't help a guy out on his tuition with financial aid.

Denver, CO, but you live in the NYC area. And, ironically, 7k is about what Mike McD was in the hole initially thanks to Worm, wasn't it? Sorry if you're really having a problem, but this just doesn't seem to add up. Talk to someone at your school if its for real, there's bound to be somebody who can help you out. Maybe even an aging law professor or something...

EDIT TO ADD: I'm sure some legitimate banking institution can swing SOMETHING for you if its absolutely imperative. That is, assuming you've got decent credit and collateral...I hope you do, for your sake. If not, maybe you've got friends or family who can put you up for a while?

Totally depends. You have to hit the right person.

in college i took a personal investing class with an awesome professor. he built himself up from being dirt hungry poor in NYC to a millionaire. he mostly told stories about all the crazy people he knew and the cool stuff he owned. the class taught me little about how to get rich but he drove one point home on at least a daily basis, "Dont get mobbed up."
