Re: greatest year by a non HOF hitter?
He played in the Pacific Coast League(PCL) from 1924-27 after his arm "went dead" as a pitcher. He returned to the league as an outfielder in 1928 as a NY Giant.

Re: greatest year by a non HOF hitter?
Wally Berger, 1930.
.317/.375/.614, 38 HR's, 119 RBI. How insane is 38 bombs when you're playing half of your games in Braves Field? Second place on the team in home runs in 1930 was Buster Chatham with five. Not bad for a rookie. |

Re: greatest year by a non HOF hitter?
Geez. How can you not say Roger Maris in 1961 when he broke you know who's single season homerun record while not on steroids.

Re: greatest year by a non HOF hitter?
Joe Jackson
1920 .382 BA, 121 rbi, 218 hits, 42 doubles, 20 triples, 105 runs, .444 obp, .589 slug, only 14 strikeouts in context of the questions and rumors concerning the 1919 world series (not that he has very emotionally fragile or even that he fully understood what was happening, but it was still a burden and distraction). 2000 Todd helton (I am biased) 138 runs 216 hits 59 doubles 42 HRs 147 rbi 103 walks .372 BA .463 OBP .698 SLG 1994 Frank Thomas, in 113 games 106 runs 34 doubles 38 HRs 101 rbi 109 walks .353 BA .487 OBP .729 SLG |
