Default What do you put him on?

.50/1 blinds. I'm new to the table, the BB is unknown to me.

I limp UTG with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Three other players limp and the SB completes. The BB raises to $2 and everyone calls.

Flop: 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

BB checks and I bet the pot, $11.40. Everyone folds to the BB who min-raises to $22.80. I call.

Turn: 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

He bets the pot, $54.75.

I thought his preflop and flop play were a little unusual and wasn't sure what to put him on. What range of hands would you put a typical player on after the flop check raise, and how, if at all, does the turn bet change your read?

Also, feel free to comment on my flop play.

AA7x with one suit.
Or some odball hand where he spiked a set on the flop.

KK99 or whatever.

Online? Could be deuces. Could be anything. I think the bet on the flop is fine after his check - you have a legit hand and might just take it down now. The min reraise opens a few question marks. Your call is fine. He could have a really good wrap - and doesn't want to scare you off. So that's JT98/7 or similar, possibly with the flush draw. That hand would be consistent with a sweetener raise PF as well. 8, and his hand came in, he bets to protect it.

That's the rational read. I suspect it probably wasn't quite as good as that. Perhaps he had bottom set/top two and wanted to test the water, and bets the turn to force out a draw.

You had to fold.

Sort of.

I folded to the turn bet and he told me he flopped top set.

I'm not sure I'm crazy about the flop bet, but what do I know. seems like it's not too hard to get checkraised and if it gets checked through maybe someone hits a lower flush and pay you off bigtime.
