Laptop wireless slowness

My new laptops wireless has slowed to a crawl. I have a sony vaio. I have a netgear wireless card which I plug into it. I am connected to my schools wireless network, and the connection is strong. The first couple weeks it was great, everything was fast, I was dling at 100 kbs, websites were loading fast. Today everything is slow. I'm even having trouble just surfing 2p2 and stuff, its just slow. When I download from ftps and sites like download .com. its unbelieveably slow, less than 1 kbs. I hate to go to another comp to download spyware programs. I dled adware and spybot, adaware found no problems, spybot found a couple and I removed them. No improvement. I opened up windows task manager and went to the networking tab, and under the adapter I use I am using about 1% of the signal. Everything else about the comp works fine. What can I do? Thanks
