Default Underage at Foxwoods?

How would an underage (19) player fare in his attempt to play at Foxwoods? Do they card at the cage? Have any young-looking or genuinely underage players found a game there without trouble? I'm tired of making the drive to upstate New York to find a casino game.

Also, is it worth it? What kind of tables/limits/players do they have there? Do they treat poker players right? I'm looking for a little weekend work that's more fun than playing online or scooping ice cream. Anything you can tell me would be great. Thanks guys!

There is a high risk of getting carded there. I am 23 and was carded a few times in the weekend I spent there. There are security guards at every entrance and they will card young looking people. If you look older, it may not be a problem.

Thanks for your reply. Not what I wanted to hear, but you probably saved me a trip to CT. Oh well...

I'm 21 and I never get carded. Probably once in my last 10 visits. If I'm with a group of friends there, it's more likely. Bottom line is it's pretty hit or miss, depends on what guard is standing at the entrance to the casino when you get there. Once you're in, you shouldn't have any problems. It may not be wortha long trip, but if you're nearbye, I'd give it a shot. If you do try, don't press your luck by getting alcohol.

I don't look over 18 and I got in there a few times when I was only 20. If one door guard asks for ID, I'd say I was just looking for the buffet and try another entrance. If you're suave and low-key it's very doable. They do not card at the cage.

However, after I turned 21 I even got carded at the table once.

The lowest game they offer is 2-4, then 4-8, then 5-10 with a kill, which plays more like a 10-20 game. I would advise playing above 2-4 as quickly as possiible as the rake structure is bad.

I know nothing of how good a player you are, but if I were you I wouldn't assume that I was good enough to play cards for a part-time job. Even good players hit losing streaks. I would look at it more from a recreational viewpoint.

ps. Mohegan Sun was even easier to get into but they closed their pokerroom a few months ago.

I've been carded 3 or 4 times there out of 15 trips probably. I'm 27. I look young but am still well over 21. GL if you try it.

this question always comes up.. and there are always the same answers. you get people saying.. oh .. they always card.. don't go for it.. and then you get people saying, oh .. they never card,.. you're golden.

the real answer? both! i belong to the "they never card" camp, because.. well, they never card. you really have to scout it out if you're underage. there are some security guards.. you know they will card you, no matter what.. and there are some that you know won't card you, no matter what. i am 23 and i sometimes go with buddies of mine that are young looking.. i mean really young looking, and nobody ever gets carded. what can i say? GO FOR IT

i agree, i have been going to casinos since i was in the womb, and i still dont look a day over 19. grab your sack walk in like you own the place, and never look back. trial by fire.

At the risk of bringing up sensitive issues, I think there are certain racial/ethnic groups that will get carded more than others.

I have a friend who is Asian and around 33 and still gets carded at casinos. I don't think it is predjudice, its just that some people have a hard time judging the age of a person who is not of their own kind.

Anyway, I think you have a much better chance of getting away with it if you go by yourself rather than a group of people your own age.

Thanks, guys. Now I might give it a shot. I go to school in Providence, so it's only about an hour and a half lost if I get booted. What I'm really worried is that if they catch me on the way to cash out they'll take my roll. I don't even know if they can do that, but it sure would be a kick in the pants.

As for playing as a part-time job...I've been doing it for several months now. I realized that I always made money in home games, so I took it online and to Turning Stone and saw the same results. I don't live from check to check (or, rather, pot to pot) so I can handle the swings. I like live games with solid players, and I actually like that hokey casino atmosphere. I'm careful, cautious, and cheap as hell. I won't be betting the car I use to get there

Anyhow, I'll probably give it a shot sometime this month, so I'll let you all know how it goes. If not, I'll be back up at Turning Stone. I'll be the one looking really bored at the 1-3 with the old folks or the one at the 3-6 getting stares from the other players. Why don't poker players like kids? Maybe it's just kids who win sometimes
