Default Vinyl v. LP

Is there a difference? I'm starting a collection and want the big fat what I think are finals. Which one is stereo and what is mono?

isn't vinyl basically any record ? assuming the record is pressed on vinyl..
LP = long play
EP = extended play
i don't think either of them mean anything in relation to stereo/mono.
most formats are
12" (album) / 33 rpm LP OR 7" / 45 rpm EP (single)
