Default Busted out twice on First hand of tourney: Please review my play

Well I busted out twice last night on the first hand of a single table sit and go. I'm starting to feel like they were both bad plays. It might be me letting the results get to my head though.

The first time I cant find the hand history so I will recount it as best as possible.

NL: 5+1
Dealt 55 in Middle position. I raise to double the BB and am called from behind by one player. Flop comes down 356 rainbow. I move I bet a few hundered and am called. Turn is a J. I move all in and am called.

My read is a straight or straight draw. Villian turns over a A4o. Is it correct to move all in when you have redraws to a Full house and may be way ahead of a straight draw?

Heres the second one. Paradise Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t5 (10 handed) converter

BB (t1000.00)
UTG (t1000.00)
UTG+1 (t1000.00)
UTG+2 (t1000.00)
MP1 (t1000.00)
Hero (t1000.00)
MP3 :#A500AF(Villian)/ (t1000.00)
CO (t1000.00)
Button (t1000.00)
SB (t1000.00)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of t5.
UTG calls t10, 1 fold, UTG+2 calls t10, 1 fold, Hero raises to t40, MP3 :#A500AF(Villian)/ raises to t100, 4 folds, UTG folds, UTG+2 folds, Hero calls t60.

Flop: (t235) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets t100, Villian raises to t200, Hero calls t100.

Turn: (t635) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, Villian bets t170, Hero raises to t700, Villian calls t530 (All-In).

River: (t2035) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: t2035

Results in white below:
Hero has Qh Ks (three of a kind, kings).
Villian has Ad Kd (three of a kind, kings).
Outcome: Villian wins t2035.
I guess I just couldnt get away from this one. I was thinking that I was ahead of everything except AA, KK (unlikely) and AK when I moved all in. I actually thought I might just induce a fold.

Why did you raise 55? It was a bad beat, obviously, seeing as he did have a straight draw with one card to come, but you should just limp 55, especially behind other limpers.

2nd hand. Oh jesus, where to start. Don't raise KQo. Definitely don't call the re-raise. The results show you why. Oh, and no, you won't induce a fold from AA, KK or AK there. Ever.

Yeah the second hand was a mistake, but I didnt mean that I would induce a fold from the higher hands. Just that I was trying to reduce my chances of getting sucked out on by a second best hand (like KJ).

I guess the action should have told me that I was behind but I dont always give the players at these tourney's a lot of credit since 70% of them are terrible players.

Well, sorry, but raising and calling a re-raise with KQo is also terrible play.

And 'reducing the risk of being sucked out on', when you have a second-best hand (which is ALL KQo can EVER make, by the way) is ridiculous. You're worried about a 3-outer on the river? Please.

I think you should be a bit more careful when using the word EVER.

It can never make best hand with top pair. Sorry, obviously it can make the nut straight. Or top full house when it comes KKQ. Better?

Tigerite, I agree with you completely about the OP's play of this hand. I would never have played it that way.

But to say that KQo can NEVER make a best hand with top pair is going way too far. In this spot, you're correct, but KQo can be a strong hand in certain circumstances.

Yes, much better.

However, you should of course note that NO HAND makes best hand with top pair.

Edit: it's actually better to speak in terms of "nuts", and not "best hand", but since you're using "best hand", that's what I did too. Clearly, KQo can make what we normally call best hand, even with top pair, and it will happen relatively often.

Tourny 1 ------------ Call with 55, don't raise. If you flop a set, great, if you don't fold.

Tourny 2 ------------ Call with AQ, don't raise. If you don't flop TP, two pair or better, fold. Becareful.

To tell you the truth you should have been good enought to get away from these hands.
