Default Recommend me some P.C. speakers.

Am thinking of going for the Harman Soundsticks II

but

I will spend much of the next two years travelling. So, what I also want to know is, how rapidly does the price of speakers drops. i.e. I need a new P.C, but because P.C technology advances rapidly, I am holding back, becuase with all the travelling it is better just to buy one when I am settled.

Klipsch. You won't be sorry. Unlike many PC peripherals, you'll get your moneys worth for a long time.

Are these good for using with a laptop, where the only sound output comes from a headphone port?

They plug in through the headphone jack so yes.

This just means that it comes with two speakers that sit on your desk and then there is a sub woofer that you usually put under the desk. These are usually what you are looking for when trying to get computer speakers unless you only want a few small speakers to travel with or something [they mostly suck] or you want surround sound in which case you would want 5.1 [5 speakers, 1 sub]

Two speakers, and a subwoofer.

Everything I'm getting on the soundsticks is Mac related. Dunno if speakers go both ways. After checking Maximum PC's reviews the 2.1's Emmitt suggest get really high marks and the 5.1 version get's the highest mark of any speaker set in two years. So they must be good. The geeks over at Max PC are usually reliable.
