Re: Geometry Question
I see your point, but I think if the wording were as follows, the results would have been the same.
"Imagine a right triangle drawn on a typical computer screen with a horizontal side of 100 pixels and vertical side also of 100 pixels. How many pixels are along the diagonal (hypotenuse) side?" |

Re: Geometry Question
I understand the point you are trying to make but if it were true, then how could the sides of the triangle you have drawn be considered 5? The shared pixel on each corner must be included in the count for each side.

Re: Geometry Question
Did you really draw a 100 by 100 image?
I would have done a 10 by 10. How did you count the pixels? Using a magnifying glass or by zooming up? When you zoom up you are not actually seeing individual pixles, but I gues I would still trust MicroSoft that they are what they seem to be. |

Re: Geometry Question
It's 100 pixels long. Took me a minute to catch that, nice question.

CAN YOU SEE how they don't see the 100 pixel hyp. as a "length"?? |

Re: Geometry Question
Sounds like you initially answered the question incorrectly, then tried to twist the question around to make your answer correct after you realized that you were in fact incorrect. It's obvious what the question is asking.

Re: Geometry Question
I deleted my initial post, which read " sqrt 20k, unless there's a trick."
The question could read thusly: "If a right traingle is rendered on a typical computer screen..., how many pixels are in the... hypotenuse." There you have a legitimately tricky question. |

[/ QUOTE ] yeah, i tried to avoid being wrong about an attempted trick math question on an internet message board.heaven forbid. its obvious the question asks for a length, and since he established two sides using pixels as the units, we should define the length of the hyp using those same units |
