okay, I made it into a Step 5...
now what?
Anyone want to enlighten me as to what might be correct strategy in a Step 5? top 4 get paid - 16 others get bupkus. Anything different I should be aware of? What about the caliber of players? Thanks! |

Re: okay, I made it into a Step 5...
strategy = try to scout your game and get one without too many top players (0 is a nice number to shoot for) and play solid poker.
i assume you've played sngs at party before with cash prizes, so, uh, play good. these are closer to normal than the lower steps, which have super satellitish strategy implications, due to the levelled out prizes. good luck, and seriously, game selection. citanul |

Alot of blind stealing. People like Genoa st. and Gigabet are not afraid of playing with less chips than most people so they Bet big and often. Try stealing a few blinds yourself when the blinds hit 50 / 100 and up. A few people should be out by then so down to 7 or 8 will make it a little easier. Good Luck

Go to the leaderboard under news/events. That will give you some idea of who to watch out for.

Game selection. Otherwise, you will die. This will be the toughest poker you will ever play in your life.

Re: okay, I made it into a Step 5...
Watch the tables for a while before jumping in, preferably with PT. That's what I'm doing before I venture into the shark tank. I've been doing this for a few days, and I know who I want in my game when I get there.
Even for the really good players, I'm at the point where I'm able to predict a good number of the moves they make, and I'm getting pretty good at putting them on a hand based on their postflop play. My accumulation of data has been pretty tedious, but I think it will pay off. Also, I'd play during peak hours when lots of tables are running. Many of the sharks play 4 tables at once. You have a slightly better chance against them if their attention is divided. |

Does your Step 5 entry qualify for the 10-man STTs. This may be a better option.
