About 10,000 hands. [/ QUOTE ] How do you you top players deal with that? Here's a better question: how do you deal with that if you have no previous history of being a winning player? (This is what I am going through right now -- my first 10,000 hands have been bad play and worse luck, and it's really getting to me. Figure I have to plow through it, because if I am not psychologically tough I will never get anywhere in this game). Arrrrrgh, -K |

Re: Longest Losing Streak
I believe this -- it feels like I am either going to break the red zone in a big way and bust out and get over it for good, or this is going to drive me to quit. There's no other way about it.
However, I think I am going to take the weekend off, re-read SSHE (again!), get wasted, and watch some damn hentai. Yeah. Like any of you care. Just as a note to other newbies chopping wood out there: sometimes, you really need to step away from the game. It will get to you at times. -K |

Re: Longest Losing Streak
If the game doesn't get to you, then you're prolly not really putting anything into it. From what I've read in your posts, you are thinking about it the right way. Keep plugging, keep your head about you when it is tough (like now, it seems) and it will come together.

Re: Longest Losing Streak
It should not be getting to me like this (in theory, anyway). I have seen this before -- there was one night in paticular where I managed to drop 150BBs in one night, playing one table at a time, at .05/.1, on Pacific. Holy crap on a crutch. So these things can and will happen, but it goes both ways.
Sometimes, you just need some validation from someone other than yourself that yes, you really are doing the right thing (or some faxsimilie thereof). I am now collecting my thoughts regarding the matter and hopefully have something to present to the forums in a couple of days. I hope people find it useful, as I regard it to be important for starting players to realize, but it is rarely dicussed (here, anyway). I'm still getting way the hell wasted tomorrow, though. -K |

Re: Longest Losing Streak
I don't know about most of these guys, but it took me a full year to 'get it'. Now I look at poker completely different, thanks to most of the posters in this forum.
There are a lot of situations that can't be explained. When you are in one of those situations you will know. Take notes as you play, not just on the cards but on what you were thinking. I'm no math wiz like a lot of the posters on this and other forums, but getting a feel for the game comes with experience. Just be patient and keep learning. Re: Longest Losing Streak
My first step from Nanos into party was a hell and I dropped 200BB in 4,000 Hands. Clearly I was doing something wrong but also my bad beats was unbelievble. Anyways after reading SSH I started thinking different and I gained some confidence in my play.
I made a second try on 0,5/1,0 at Paradise but again I dropped 100BB in 4,000 hands and went back to playing 0,25/0,50. now i'm on my third streak and doing ok. Seems like party is playing with me though I had a session of 1,000 hands the other day with close to no wins at all. Result: -100BB However I didn't think that I'd play all that bad and next day I made 80BB back. Reading inhere has convinced me that I'll occasionally drop 100+BB and shouldn't worry but keep playing. You should clearly do the same. |
