Default Cardinals sign Roberto Alomar

Ugh. At least he's cheap. $500k non-guaranteed contract.

He turns 37 on opening day. He spent most of last year on the shelf after breaking his hand early in the year.

This may not turn out to be that bad a move. He did fairly well last year for Arizona in limited duty, although he tanked in the AL. But he's 'only' 36, so I don't know if he's completely finished yet, and a decent season from him could produce numbers than Eckstein. And no, I don't hate Eckstein

Alomar really dropped off like very few players I can remember. Seemed like he went from All Star/MVP type to bench player in one season. Doubt he can help but for that price worth the risk I guess.

Heh, that's the funny thing. He DID go from all-star to bench player in one season.

2001: .336/.415/.541, and big numbers across the board, probably his best season EVER.
2002: .266/.331/.376
2003: .258/.333/.349
2004: .263/.321/.392

I mean, after the 2001 season, I thought his place in Cooperstown was all but wrapped up. Now, who knows. It's really mystifying what happened to him, and so quickly at that.

Default And Bill Mazeroski?

He'd probably be just as useful.

My feelings exactly. I really wish they had gotten Polanco.
