Default Single table SnG\'s vs 2table vs 3 table?

while writing this THREAD comparing SnGs to MTTs, thoughts of multi table SnG's popped up in my head.

i bet lots of people asked the question are multitable sngs worth it when they first appeared, but i dont seem to recall a definite answer.

my gut feeling is that multitable sngs are not worth it and to stick to Single table. my reasoning is that with single table SnGs, 30% of the field get paid. with 3table SnGs, only 16.7% get paid. It also takes ~2hrs, but top payout is not 10x buy-in. it's only 9x. and the payouts are linear.

Has a concensus been formed about single table vs 2table vs 3table? If so, what?
